The University of Valencia Natural History Museum (MUVHN) has launched the project A digital window to Natural History with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. This pioneering and innovative initiative will make it possible to adapt the dissemination and teaching of its scientific collections to new technologies.
A digital window to the Natural History of the MUVHN, located on the Burjassot-Paterna campus of the University of Valencia (UV) establishes four coordinated actions that will allow the extension of the institution’s didactic activities through digital platforms and facilitate the consultation of the funds, both displayed and stored, by the scientific community and the general public.
The project contemplates the complete virtualisation of the museum’s exhibition rooms through a 360° virtual visit, the elaboration of virtual models of the most outstanding examples of the collections and their 3D printing, the creation of audio resources to complement the contents exhibitions and adapt them for people with visual and hearing disabilities and the development of educational resources that will be available online free of charge, especially aimed at educational centres throughout Spain.
The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Ministry of Science and Innovation annually convene this series of grants to co-finance activities that promote the scientific and technological culture of society, the dissemination of research results, citizen participation, the improvement of the scientific-technical education of society and the professionalisation of scientific communication.
