The Universitat and the Local Government of Gandia start up the Artjove project to motivate young artists
- May 6th, 2022
The first Artjove competition is a conjunct initiative of the Department of Culture and the Gandia International Centre of the UV that aims to provide impetus and support to Gandhians aged between 18 and 30 who want to exhibit their work for the first time in a public gallery. The selected work (urban art, plastic arts and photography) will be displayed for 30 days at Sala Tossal.
The Local Government of Gandia and the Gandia International Centre (CIG) - Universitat de València are committed to the promotion of young artists in the visual field. As announced this morning by the councillor or Culture, Nahuel González, and the director of the CIG, Carme Melo, the first Artjove competition is an initiative that aims to provide impetus and support to Gandhians aged between 18 and 30 who want to exhibit their work for the first time in a public gallery.
The call covers various disciplines such as urban art, plastic arts and photography. “The objective is to facilitate and support the development and display of projects created by young people” said González. For this reason, as the councillor explained, a jury made up by technicians form the City Councill and from the Universitat will select some of the works that will be exhibited at the Sala Tossal during 30 days. “It goes in line with what we have been doing the last few months: to potentiate culture, exhibitions and art”, he added.
“At the City Council and the Universitat we have the will to collaborate in the reinforcement of culture and bring to Gandia activities and exhibitions with the support of the UV, especially from the Cultural Centre La Nau” said Melo. That is why the initiative has two objectives. On one hand, it aims to consolidate the joint work between the two institutions, but above all “to support artistic creation, especially among young people, and to accompany creators throughout their process”.
The councillor of Culture has manifested that the group of young people “need academic institutions or public administrations to be able to start working and find their way in art”. In this way, the project in addition to display their creations, will also encourage the purchase of art. The City Council will acquire the works, for each which each selected author will receive 300 euros, and will include them in the Municipal Artistic Fund. “We have to open the doors of the institutions to them so that tomorrow they can succeed and give us joy in our city” he pointed out.
All people between 18 and 30 years old registered in Gandia can register and they can do it through the mail email@example.com until the 1st of June at 14 hours. In case of any incident, you can contact the City Council, the Universitat or the social media accounts of both institutions.
