The Summer School of the Universitat de València has closed this Friday 29th of July, this year’s edition that has gathered a total of 237 participants between La Nau Menuda (schoolchildren between 6 and 12 years old) and La Nau Jove (between 13 and 16 years old). Sports were the main theme of the 2022 edition, which also included excursions, rural stays and water games.

The three campuses of the Universitat de València (Blasco Ibáñez, Tarongers and Burjassot-Paterna) have been the venues for the main activities of La Nau Menuda, while Tarongers Campus has been the base for La Nau Jove. The 2022 edition of the Summer School of the Universitat de València, which this year has increased by about twenty participants, has promoted the values of sport among young people, with special emphasis on traditional sports such as Valencian pilota.

Likewise, in the face of the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, the Universitat de València opened the doors of the Summer School to take in Ukrainian refugee children. A total of three schoolchildren from this Eastern European country took part in La Nau Menuda. To facilitate their integration, the University provided them with a language support monitor and a monitor for specific needs. The experience of the three Ukrainian children during the month of July has been very positive and they have had a complete adaptation.

La Nau Menuda

The visit to the Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe of the City of Arts and Sciences has been one of the most successful activities among the children of La Nau Menuda, where participants have been able to interact with different proposals to discover more about the mysteries of science. Likewise, traditional sports have also been very well welcomed by the youngest children, highlighting the Valencian pilota event, with the participation of pilota players Puchol II, Victoria Díez and Carlos Donat to explain and teach the traditional Valencian sport.

La Nau Jove

Sports also marked the 2022 edition of La Nau Jove, where participants practised paddle surfing in La Marina de València and visited the Trinquet de Pelayo, the cathedral of Valencian pilota, where they received lessons in this traditional sport. In addition, this year it has been possible to recover the three-day stay at the rural tourism centre in the village of Las Viñuelas de Sinarcas (Requena-Utiel), an activity that had to be suspended last year due to the COVID-19 health crisis, and the excursion to Charco Azul of Chulilla (Los Serranos).
