The Observatori Cultural organises a conversation with guitarist Marc Ribot on music and political activism

The Observatori Cultural of the Universitat de València organised the activity ‘Music and activism’, a conversation with the guitarist Marc Ribot, one of the most renowned, versatile and committed artists, which provided an opportunity to talk about his work and political commitment from the international scene. Ribot visited La Nau of the Universitat last May 9th.

The activity, hosted in the Aula Magna of La Nau Cultural Centre by Raúl Abeledo, director of the Observatori Cultural, was offered on-site.

Marc Ribot is one of the most renowned and sought-after guitarists of New York’s scene. This avant-garde songwriter, improviser and accompanist has participated in a multitude of eclectic projects from free jazz to rock, blues and Cuban music, making him one of the most versatile musicians of our generation. His long list of collaborations includes artists like Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Solomon Burke, Marianne Faithfull, Caetano Veloso, John Zorn or Hal Willner, among many others.

In addition, Ribot is a committed musician who actively fights for artists’ rights with the group Musicians Action. He is the author of the book Unstrung: Rants and Stories of a Noise Guitarist, Akashic Books, 2021.
