The aim of volunteering in UVdisability is to support and accompany students with disabilities to be integrated into university life and have satisfactory access to teaching resources and academic structures. The actions in which the volunteer students collaborate are the adaptation of material to accessible formats and the taking of notes.

Participation in this volunteering involves 25 hours of training and a commitment to participate in the actions developed by the UV Volunteering to support students with disabilities with a dedication of 37.5 hours throughout the academic year 2020/2021.

Sedi supports this volunteer initiative and also organises the basic and specific training necessary for the incorporation of students in the proposals for participation.

 

A) TRAINING

Dates: from 30 October to 14 November 2020.

Modality: online course, via UV Virtual Classroom (Moodle), lasting 25 hours. A combination of synchronous sessions with the teaching staff and assignments to be completed and submitted autonomously. The synchronous sessions to which participants must necessarily connect are the following days:

  • 30 October, from 4 to 8 p.m. 
  • 31 October, from 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. 
  • 6 November, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • 7 November, from 10 a.m. to 2.20 p.m.
  • 13 November, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • 14 November, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Programme

  • Common block: Basic training on volunteering (8 hours).
  1. Diagnosis of poverty and exclusion
  2. Agenda 2030 and the University
  3. Volunteering and social responsibility
  • Specific block (17 hours).
  1. Introduction to disability/diversity and educational support needs.
  2. Hearing impairment: characteristics of people with deafness (support products, introduction to sign language, basic communication guidelines, etc.).
  3. Visual impairment: characteristics of people with visual impairment (support products, introduction to Braille, accompaniment, guide dog, etc.).
  4. Motor disability: characteristics of people with motor disabilities (support products, universal accessibility, etc.).
  5. Mental illness: characteristics of people with mental illness (myths, recommendations, etc.).
  6. Organic disability: characteristics of people with organic disability (type, support measures, etc.)
  7. Specific educational support needs: Dyslexia, ADHD, Asperger's, etc.
  8. Subtitling of videos for people with deafness (practice).
  9. Adaptation of material for blind people (practical).

B) PARTICIPATION IN UV VOLUNTEER SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

The dedication of the student volunteers will be focused, during the academic year 2020-21, on tasks of adaptation of academic material to facilitate access to teaching resources. Due to the special circumstances of this academic year, the actions of the volunteers will be carried out telematically and with flexible timetables.

ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

The degree students who participate can obtain the recognition of 2.5 ECTS credits for participating in this programme, provided that the use of the training and the dedication of 37.5 hours to the agreed voluntary actions are verified.
