- Resumen de la trayectoria científica. Aurora Seco Torrecillas es doctora en Ciencias Químicas y Catedrática del área de Tecnologías de Medio Ambiente en la Universitat de València desde 2008. Su carrera investigadora se ha desarrollado en el ámbito del medio ambiente, con especial incidencia en los tratamientos de aguas residuales. El inicio de la especialización en este campo se produjo en 1987 durante una estancia Post-Doctoral de un año en el Departamento de Ingeniería Civil de la Stanford University (California, USA) financiada por la Generalitat Valenciana, durante la cual se estudió la eliminación de metales pesados de las aguas residuales mediante coprecipitación/adsorción. Tiene una prolongada experiencia investigadora en el campo de la eliminación y recuperación de nutrientes del agua residual y la aplicación de bioreactores de membrana anaerobios (AnMBR) a los tratamientos de aguas. En los últimos años, la investigación se ha centrado en la recuperación de nutrientes y energía presentes en las aguas residuales mediante la combinación de procesos de membrana, tratamientos anaerobios, cultivos de microalgas y la adecuada gestión de las distintas corrientes. La modelación de procesos de tratamiento de aguas también ocupa un lugar destacado en su trayectoria científica, siendo un hito fundamental el desarrollo del Biological Nutrient Removal Model 1 (BRM1), al tratarse del primer modelo general aplicable a los distintos procesos que se dan en una estación depuradora de aguas residuales. Dado que la transferencia de tecnología a la industria es uno de los objetivos primordiales de las investigaciones realizadas, los resultados de los trabajos son siempre integrados en el correspondiente software de cálculo (DESASS), lo cual facilita su difusión en el ámbito profesional, investigador y académico. Relacionado con la calibración automática de los parámetros de los modelos, se ha desarrollado una patente que permite esta calibración. Es miembro fundadora y coordinadora de la Unidad Mixta de Investigación UV/UPV CALAGUA (junto con el profesor José Ferrer, de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia). Ha participado en 25 proyectos de concurrencia competitiva financiados por diferentes organismos españoles y por la Comisión Europea (3 proyectos LIFE, un proyecto Climate KIC y un proyecto H2020). Ha coordinado el Innovation Deal for Circular Economy 'Sustainable wastewater treatment combining anaerobic membrane technology and water reuse' de la Comisión Europea, cuyo objetivo es la promoción de la tecnología AnMBR de tratamiento de aguas para su implantación a nivel industrial así como la utilización agrícola de las aguas tratadas y sus nutrientes. Durante todo este tiempo ha codirigido un total de 33 Tesis Doctorales y ha participado en la publicación de 170 artículos en revistas indexadas y de 4 patentes, 1 modelo de utilidad y 2 programas informáticos registrados.
